EKFH’s Starlite Campaign Surprises Sparwood Team $3,000 Cart

Submitted by EKFH on 07-08-2014

Sparwood, BC… Not often does a surprise come off without a hitch but this one certainly did.

Recently East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s Brian Clifford (Chair) and Donna Grainger (Executive Director) were hosted with a tour of the Sparwood Health Centre by Interior Health’s Janice Talarico, Manager, Community Integration Health Services Fernie, Sparwood & Elkford.

While on the tour many departments had a chance to talk with EKFH about its mission to provide funding for the East Kootenay Regional Hospital and other community facilities in complementing the health care needs of the region.

It was during this tour that one of the nurses in the emergency department made mention that they hoped that one day their department could approach EKFH about the possibility of getting a pediatric crash cart for the unit.
Unbeknownst to the nurse her wish did not go unheard. Between Janice, Brian and Donna a plan was put in place to purchase the cart.

With the approval and paperwork processed, Janice gathered the team to meet in her office to join in on a conference call that the group thought was an EKFH thank you for the tour. Instead the group was told that because of being able to see first hand the passion and enthusiasm the team had for giving the best care possible, EKFH was able to grant the wish of a pediatric cart thanks to the generosity of donors who supported EKFH’s 2013 Starlite Campaign.

The Sparwood Emergency Department would like to thank the East Kootenay Foundation for Health for its generous gift. The cart will help the Sparwood Emergency Department staff tremendously when providing life supporting care to children in critical situations. The cart will allow all pediatric emergent care supplies to be easily located and organized. Staff will be able to access required supplies quickly and efficiently. Pediatric emergencies require specialized care and the pediatric emergency crash cart will greatly support staff when providing emergent care to children.

The 2014 Starlite Campaign focusing on regional health care needs will launch again at the end of November; to make a donation to an area of care or facility in your community visit the secured website www.ekfh.ca.
