Fairmont Lions make 2nd Gift to EKFH Mammography Campaign

Submitted by EKFH on 17-08-2011 Details: This past June the combination of rain, wind and the occasional streak of sun didn’t scare off the 144 golfers, 29 dinner guests and the numerous amount of Lions Volunteers from attending the annual Fairmont & District Lions Club’s Golf Fun Day held at Coy’s Par 3 this past Saturday.   Proceeds from the annual event are earmarked for a charitable cause and this year was no exception.      Thanks to the foresight of President Bob Rutherford, Ray Kolochuk (incoming President), Mike Tanguay (Event Coordinator) and the entire Lions Club membership their decision to once again support the East Kootenay Foundation for Health and the East Kootenay Regional Hospital couldn’t have been more pivotal. The Fairmont Lion’s have now made two donations for a total of  $7,060 and  is one of the lead gifts that is helping to start a major campaign being undertaken by the regional hospital foundation.   Over the next two years EKFH is taking on its biggest challenge a $1 million capital campaign called “A Clear View ~ a digital mammography campaign” to provide funding for a new digital stereotactic mammography unit for the Diagnostic Imaging Department.      Mike Tanguay explains, “The Fairmont Lions have supported the East Kootenay Foundation for Health for a numbers of years with the purchase of smaller pieces of medical equiment and monetary donations to larger projects such as the recent refurbishment of the Invermere and District Hospital emergency room. This year’s EKFH project to purchase a digital mammography machine was a perfect fit considering our service goals and the fact that three of our members are breast cancer survivors.”   Organizations and businesses from throughout the Columbia Valley provided donations of products and services as part of the silent auction table with one unique prize of a motor boat complete with trailer, fishing package, motor and water toys being donated by Ruth and Phil Ullman as a thank you to the great work done by the Lions throughout the community.    The Lions Club and EKFH would also like to thank the Coy family who provides the golf course free of charge and also particpate in the day’s activities.     A Clear View ~ a digital mammograpy fundraising campaign needs your help – to make a financial contribution to the fight against breast cancer please visit www.a clear view.ca .   -30-
