I’m a Breast Buddy (ski/board-a-thon) comes to Fernie Alpine Resort

Submitted by EKFH on 12-01-2012

Fernie, BC… The latest creative fundraising idea in support of East Kootenay Foundation for Health’s A Clear View ~ digital mammography campaign comes to us from Stephanie Rogers of Fernie, BC. Stephanie recently found herself sharing a coffee with Evelyn Cutts (a Face of the Campaign for the Elk Valley) and the two started brainstorming about ways to help move the two-year $1 million campaign closer to its end goal; that’s when “I’m a Breast Buddy” came to be.

The I’m a Breast Buddy fundraiser is a two-day ski/board-a-thon to raise money for East Kootenay Foundation for Health to help purchase a digital stereotactic mammography machine for the East Kootenay Regional Hospital. The event will take place at the beautiful Fernie Alpine Resort from Saturday, February 4 through to Monday, February 6.

How to Register:

To become a Breast Buddy you must register at one of the supporting ski and board shops located in downtown Fernie: Board Stiff, Commit, Straight Line, Edge of the World, Giv’er Shirtworks, The Guide’s Hut, The Ski Base or Stephanie’s Glass & Art.

The $20 registration fee entitles I’m a Breast Buddy skiers & boarders to a T-shirt (large or X-large only). The T-shirts will be handed out at the Fernie Alpine Resort Day Lodge between 8 – 9 a.m. on the first of the two days participants choose to hit the slopes in support of the fundraiser. Participants must also sign an event waiver when picking up their T-shirts. (Please note: lift passes are not provided as part of the I’m a Breast Buddy fundraiser but can be purchased through the Fernie Alpine Resort ticket office.)

About Pledges/Donations:

When registering you will receive a pledge form. The idea is to contact friends, family, co-workers, anyone you think will pledge an amount per run based on the # of runs you do or make a flat sum for your efforts over the two days chosen between Feb 4 and Feb 6. Pledges (or donations) can be made by cash, cheque (payable to I’m a Breast Buddy or EKFH) or by Visa or MasterCard through the secure on-line fundraising website www.aclearview.ca.

Participants are responsible to fill out all necessary information on their pledge forms and to keep track of cash and/or cheque donations. All pledges and donations should be collected and submitted to the fundraising event organizer – Stephanie Rogers, Stephanie’s Glass & Art, 532 2nd Ave, Fernie, BC V0B 1M0 or by phoning 250.423-3944 or 250.423.0433 (cell) by no later than February 9 as prizes will be given out on Sunday, February 12 – 3:00 p.m. at the Fernie Alpine Resort; thanks to some very generous sponsors such as TECK, Finning Sparwood, Pacific Coastal Airlines, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, Best Western Fernie Mountain Lodge, Indian Springs Ranch & Golf Community, Twisted Timber Guest House, Commit Snow & Skate, King Fir Spa, Elk Valley Wine & U-Brew and many more.

Charitable tax receipts (issued by East Kootenay Foundation for Health) can be given for donations or pledges over $20, please ensure to indicate this on the pledge form including all the appropriate mailing information.

How the Ski/Board-a-thon Works:

Participants wearing their T-shirt will be able to have as many runs as possible by using priority lift lines on certain lifts whether you have been pledged an amount per run or on the # of runs made in a day (honest tracking of the # of runs is important).

For more information contact the I’m a Breast Buddy event coordinator: Stephanie Rogers, Stephanie’s Glass & Art, 532 2nd Ave, Fernie, BC V0B 1M0 or by phoning 250.423-3944 or 250.423.0433 (cell).
