Kimberley Health Care Auxiliary Starlite Spirit to Lead ICU Purchase

Submitted by EKFH on 12-12-2013

Kimberley, BC… It’s the most wonderful time of the year when people come together to share friendship, fellowship and giving. The Kimberley Health Care Auxiliary recently gathered their members and a few special guests at its annual Christmas luncheon at the Marysville Rexall Hall on December 9 to do just that.

The festive decorations and fabulous potluck meal provided the perfect backdrop for the camaraderie of the Auxiliary and for visitors Erica Phillips, Acute Area Director, East Kootenay and Donna Grainger, Executive Director of East Kootenay Foundation for Health.

KHCA President Jacquie Perrault’s warm welcome to the luncheon was further highlighted with a $20,000 donation to the foundation’s 2013 Starlite Campaign. This donation combined with their $30,000 Starlite gift in 2012 has become the lead gift in community support for equipment for the pending six-bed intensive care unit at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Erica Phillips of Interior Health had a surprise of her own for the 100-member Auxiliary whose donation comes from two thrift shops (Marysville & Howard Street). The $50,000 leadership gift is being combined with proceeds from two major golf tournaments for EKFH last summer thanks to sponsors Cranbrook Dodge in July and Boston Pizza Northstar Motors in August. These gifts are joined by general public donations and in memoriam gifts from the families of Sandy Domin, Scott Coxen, Pat Strang, Lou Peterson & Lenora Wesche that will complete a total $120,000 dedicated to purchasing two ceiling booms from future ICU rooms’ numbers 5 and 6.

“This collaboration of support from events, donations and remembering a loved one is truly a remarkable opportunity for the ICU. Without these particular donations the ability to purchase two additional ceiling booms for the project would not have been possible, “explains Donna Grainger, EKFH Executive Director.

The KHCA Starlite gift will also light 4 stars atop the regional hospital as part of EKFH’s annual holiday campaign with a goal to light 17 stars and raise $150,000 for community health initiatives.

The stars are waiting; please consider a donation to health care in your community by making a secured on-line donation at www.ekfh.ca. You can also drop a gift at your local hospital or health care facility or mail to EKFH, 13 24th Ave N, Cranbrook, BC V1C 3H9.
