Legacy Gifts unite Foundations for Swan Valley Lodge

Creston, BC… Two recent legacy gifts from Creston, one in memory of long-time valley resident Alec Hall donated to East Kootenay Foundation for Health and the other an anonymous living gift part of an endowment fund of the Creston-Kootenay Foundation brought both organizations together to purchase a much-needed bariatric bed for the Swan Valley Lodge.

Bariatric hospital beds are especially designed for people who are overweight or above average height. The basic difference between this and the normal hospital bed is that the metal is reinforced and the sleeping area tends to be bigger. This means that a patient is able to get more comfortable in the bed and they are well supported. The legacy gifts also allowed the two foundations to purchase a special mattress which provides added support and the capability to prevent pressure sores.

“What a great opportunity for EKFH to work with the Creston-Kootenay Foundation on this project,” explains Cindy Yates, EKFH Board Member. “The community foundation and its endowment program is a huge asset to the area and to have the ability to pool our resources for health care certainly makes it a win win for those facilities in Creston,” adds Yates.
