Edgewater, June 1st, 2010… The RCL Poppy Fund campaign is conducted annually in the area from Spillimacheen to Dry Gulch and has provided financial assistance to not only the Invermere ER but previous funding for the Edgewater Fire Department for its first responder kits. The Legion also provides an annual $1,000 bursary to a local Edgewater student.

Details L-R: President Vi Wittman of the Royal Canadian Legion #199 (Edgewater) presents Donna Grainger, Executive Director of East Kootenay Foundation for Health with a donation of $1,600 from its annual Poppy Fund Campaign. The donation is being allocated to purchase thirteen oxygen flow and thirteen medical air meters for the new emergency department at the Invermere District Hospital.

This small (90 members) but hard-working group of Legionnaires conducts several fundraising initiatives in addition to the Poppy Campaign including the upcoming Pioneer Dinner in June, its European Dinner in September and its summer farmers markets. Like many service clubs in the area, the Royal Canadian Legion #199 (Edgewater) is looking for new members or volunteers to help with their events.
