Royal Canadian Legion #24 celebrates 85th anniversary with $10,000 gift

Submitted by EKFH on 17-08-2011 Details: An 85th anniversary is usually only celebrated and shared with those who are directly involved in the event. Not so when it comes to the generous hearts of the members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #24 in Cranbrook.    This historical celebration for the Legion’s many years of dedicated service to and for veterans and the community at large also pays witness to the meaning of paying it forward.   Long-time supporters of the work of East Kootenay Foundation for Health, the Legionnaires once again have stepped up by presenting a leadership gift of $10,000 to the A Clear View ~ a digital mammography campaign.   “Leadership gifts are what define a community and this case a region. As fundraisers our objective is to secure significant financial support for a capital campaign well before a public launch is undertaken (anticipated later this fall).   The commitment and support from the Royal Canadian Legion will help us to ensure a realistic target to bring a digital stereotactic mammography unit to the East Kootenay Regional Hospital,” shares Donna Grainger, Executive Director.    Breast cancer is still the leading cause of death in women 40-55 years of ageBut the good news is that breast cancer can be beaten especially when it is detected early.   Over the past year the East Kootenay Regional Hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Department completed roughly 1,500 screening and another 2,500 mammograms for diagnostic purposes for women and men living in the East Kootenay.     To learn more about the campaign or to make your own personal gift, visit us at www.a clearview.ca.
