St Mary’s Students Shake Their Piggy Banks

Cranbrook, BC… As part of her For My Ouma fundraiser, Marina Simons made two special trips to her children’s school (St Mary’s).

The first time was to showcase her hot pink hair and to explain to the students why she made the dramatic change and the reasons for doing so. The results of her efforts were evident as this past week Marina was asked to return to St Mary’s with her newly shorn head to pick up a donation of $313.97. This gift is approximately $2.00 per student who raised the funds by shaking their piggy banks, forgoing their tooth fairy money and even a bottle drive.

The presentation was done in conjunction with a school assembly where the first faith awards were handed out to three deserving students. As well several other students had just recently participated in the Relay for Life, one who was completely head shaven, one who cut her hair from long to short and another who is in the process of growing her hair out for Locks of Love.

“These are our future leaders and with these types of life lessons being shared with the students, I think our future is in good hands,” says Donna Grainger, EKFH Executive Director.

It’s all smiles by some of the students of St Mary’s School who generously donated to Mrs. Simons.
